← Back to LiveCoach

LiveCoach began with a simple frustration: training plans don't adapt. They hand you a fixed schedule and expect your body to comply — regardless of whether you slept badly, raced hard last weekend, or woke up feeling unexpectedly strong.

LiveCoach was built to close that gap, creating a personalised coach that adapts to the athlete rather than the other way around.

James Mealing

As Co-founder and CTO, James leads the platform's technical vision and engineering. He's the architect behind its adaptive training engine, which blends physiological signals such as heart rate variability, resting heart rate, and sleep with AI to generate plans that respond to how your body is actually recovering. He builds LiveCoach as someone who lives the problem it solves: a dedicated endurance runner who takes on some of the UK's toughest events, from Endure24, a 24-hour endurance race, to Race to the Stones, a 100km ultra along the Ridgeway. As a new dad, he understands better than ever how much a plan needs to bend to real life: to fatigue, to a broken night's sleep, to the day your body simply has more to give.

James is a seasoned technology leader with over fifteen years of experience building and scaling cloud platforms across financial services, media, telecommunications, and healthcare. He has led global-scale engineering teams at one of the world's largest technology companies, delivering database, analytics, and AI/ML services relied on by organisations worldwide, with deep expertise across all three major cloud providers — the kind of foundation a platform trusted with your personal health data needs from day one.

Ami Nash

As Co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer, Ami leads LiveCoach's scientific vision, translating physiology — how the body works, trains, and recovers — into the data and logic behind the platform's adaptive approach. She lives the problem LiveCoach solves: a dedicated endurance runner with multiple 100km ultras, 24-hour races, marathons, and trail races under her belt, she was injured following a rigid, non-adaptive plan while training for her first ultra, and has since taken a more adaptive approach to her own training. That racing history has taught her just how important it is to listen to the body after hard training in order to properly adapt, and she's long been fascinated by recovery — the way metrics on her watch would still read abnormal days after a race, well after she felt fine again — and by how little of that signal ever makes it into a training plan. As a new mum, she's experienced that gap firsthand: there's little reliable guidance on how to return to running postpartum, how to re-strengthen the core, pelvic floor, and hips first, or how to build running back up safely and realistically. It's the gap she's spending this time learning more about, and the one that pushed her to start LiveCoach.

Ami spent ten years in academia, earning a BSc in Biomedical Sciences and a PhD in Advanced Therapeutics and Nanomedicines before continuing on as a researcher. That scientific rigour, and a deep understanding of how to interpret physiological data, is what LiveCoach draws on to turn an athlete's data into guidance that can be trusted.
